Three ways to read a text

The same line, translated three ways. Pick the one that fits the moment: learning the text, understanding a phrase, or finding its colour.

Word by word

Every word under its own word, in the original order. You know exactly what each syllable means.

OhOhnube!cloud!chethatlievelightperthroughl’ariathe airt’aggiriyou wander

Clear

Natural, accurate sentences, split by phrase so they still sit under the music.

Oh nube!Oh cloud, che lieve per l’aria t’aggiridrifting so lightly through the air

Poetic

A literary translation that carries the mood and the character’s voice.

Oh nube!O cloud, che lieve per l’aria t’aggiriso light upon the wind you roam

Oh nube! che lieve per l’aria t’aggiri (Donizetti, Maria Stuarda)

Made for the way singers work

Your page stays as it is

We do not retype or redraw anything. Your notes, markings and pencil notes stay exactly where they are. We only add one line with the translation.

Right under the note

Each word is placed under the syllable where it is sung, in a dark-blue type that never mixes with the print.

Word to stress

In every phrase we highlight in yellow the word to lean on. You can change it or pick your own words with one tap.

Transcription (IPA)

Above every syllable we print how it is sung, following the lyric diction of the language of the song.

Verses, duets, ensembles

Strophic songs with several verses, duets and ensembles: every sung line gets its own translation.

Any file you have

PDF, JPG, PNG, iPhone photos (HEIC), TIFF scans and pictures inside Word documents.

Checked twice

Every translation goes through a second, independent review against the meaning of the whole sentence.

Private by design

Your translations are kept for you while your plan is active and for 30 days after it ends, and are not used for anything else.

Frequently asked questions

What exactly does translAI do?

It reads the sung lyrics in your score, translates them into the language you choose and prints the translation in a new line directly under the original text. The rest of the page stays exactly as it was; the music below simply moves down a little to make room.

Which files can I upload?

PDF, JPG, PNG, WEBP, TIFF (also multi-page), HEIC photos from iPhone, and Word (.docx) files that contain pictures of the score. Up to 60 pages and 50 MB per file.

Which languages are available?

Translation into English, Bulgarian, Russian, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Indonesian, Chinese (Simplified), Japanese and Korean. The score itself can be in almost any language: Italian, German, French, Russian, Czech, Latin, Spanish, English and others.

How good is the translation?

The text is read, corrected and translated, and every translation is then checked a second time against the meaning of the whole sentence. It is very accurate, but it is still an automatic translation: for a performance, go over the nuances with your teacher or coach.

What is the “word to stress”?

An option you switch on when you upload: in every phrase we highlight in yellow the word that carries the meaning and the feeling, so you know which one to lean on. After the translation you can change the marked words or choose your own in My scores, at no extra cost.

Can I also get a transcription?

Yes. Switch on “Transcription (IPA) above the lyrics” and above every syllable we print how it is sung, in the International Phonetic Alphabet and following lyric diction: lyric Italian, German stage pronunciation, sung French, American or British English depending on the composer. It costs no extra pages.
